Desert Dreams
Watercolor & Mixed Media Painting – 2019
Desert Dreams is a standalone memory-painting rooted in the uncertainty of childhood perception. The work captures a moment—perhaps real, perhaps imagined—of the artist stepping out of a handmade tent on a winter desert night. A thin layer of dew shimmered like frost under the moonlight, casting the entire landscape in ethereal blue. The presence of black wolves approaching the glowing tent evokes both wonder and foreboding.
The work features:
A lone child stepping out of shelter, painted with wax resist and soft charcoal outlines.
A trio of wolves—black and pale—emerging across fluid, icy dunes.
A cosmic sky rendered in layered washes of purple, indigo, and ink, dotted with stars and a glowing moon.
