Bisht
My first examination of male ceremonial rituals among Bedouin tribes

Bisht
Textile Sculpture & Installation – 2015
This work deconstructs the traditional Emirati bisht to explore memory, masculinity, and regional craftsmanship. Round in shape, with hand-woven palm trim and industrial framing, the bisht becomes a sculptural cloak—suspended yet monumental. Inspirations include Sheikh Zayed, modern Emirati architecture, and native palm trees.
The piece features:
Handwoven trim made from sun-bleached palm fronds brushed with gold.
Oversized tassels and a 174x174 cm round wool form, supported by industrial wire.
A reinterpretation of regional dress as emotional and ecological memory.
Medium: Reclaimed Bisht Wool, Palm Frond Trim, Gold Paint, Wire
