Whimsical exaggerations of the Bisht

Faham
Textile & Sound Installation – 2018
Exhibited at the Sikka Art Fair, Faham is a large-scale fashion installation composed of circular bisht sculptures in various sizes. Each piece interprets Emirati masculine customs through traditional materials and an unexpected, slightly ironic visual language. The work reflects ceremonial memories—weddings, graduations, social status—imbued with both reverence and critique.
The installation features:
Multiple bishts ranging from 100 to 180 cm in diameter, made from black and grey handmade and machine-woven wool.
Handwoven palm frond trims adorned with silver leaf appliqué.
A soundscape guiding visitors along a ritual path through the space, culminating in a fully silver-leafed bisht.
Medium: Bisht Wool, Palm Frond Weave, Silver Leaf, Sound
Presentation: Fully acquired by a private collector; permanently installed in the USA
